Silver Award

Hello! We are Girl Scouts at the San Jose Betsuin Church from Troop 61331. We are working on our Silver Award project, and would like to educate the community about various aspects of Obon.

In order to do this we have created a website that has tutorials on how to put on a kimono/yukata, do hair, tie obi (children’s sash included), and we will also have videos of the Obon practices. We chose this topic to be our Silver Award because we felt that our community is losing the Obon traditions that have been around for centuries. Not only do we want to encourage and teach people how to dress for Obon, but we also want to reach out and share our culture outside of the Japanese community.

We would appreciate it if you would review the website, and send us feedback. You can email us or type in your comments on the homepage through our website.
