Request for Volunteers

The San Jose Obon Festival is an opportunity to participate in one of the largest cultural events in the Bay Area. You will meet members of the San Jose Betsuin, people involved in the Asian American community, and perhaps renew old friendships. There are many tasks requiring volunteers prior to the festival as well as during the festival weekend. If you would like to volunteer, please email [email protected]. Your help is greatly appreciated!”

Parking Update

There is a new requirement from the Police & Fire departments this year. There will not be double parking down the middle of Fifth St. We will be able to park a single row of cars down Fifth. Please spread the word to everyone you know who might be working or attending Obon.

DOUBLE PARKING CARS IN THE MIDDLE OF FIFTH ST IS BACK

Discussions have occurred and the City is once again allowing us to park two rows of cars down the middle of the street.

Obon is a Green Event

San Jose Buddhist Church Betsuin recognizes the impact that large events can have on the environment. We have partner with Nothing Wasted Consulting and the City of San Jose Environmental Services. With the assistance of the City’s green event grant Obon 2012 goal is to divert 75% of its waste from ending up as landfill. Through this partnership, we will add sustainable waste management best practices into the event.

It only works with your help, so be on the lookout for the containers located throughout the event then all you have to do is place:

any food scraps, paper food ware (such as plates, bowls, cups, napkins), and utensils into the green “compostable” container

any plastic bottles, plastic containers, aluminum cans, and aluminum foil into the blue “recyclables” containers.

For more information on our event greening efforts, please contact Nothing Wasted Consulting at contact@nothingwastedconsulting.com.

With your help, we can make the 2012 Obon festival clean and green!
