WYBL Leadership Workshop held in Sacramento January 11th, 2003

Nine Junior YBA members and two Senior YBA members attended the WYBL Leadership Conference. This annual event helps mold WYBL current and future leaders. It is a great opportunity for Junior YBA members to meet leaders from other chapters and to learn from Senior YBA members from throughout the WYBL.

Attending the conference were Corey Fujioka, Janet Hiroshima, Lizzie Jones, Stuart Jones, Tim Louie, Lesley Makishima, Andrew Mason, Amy Sugai, and Corey Utsurogi. Senir YBA members Sara and Scott Tsukamoto also attended. Special thanks to our advisors and drivers, Stan and Karen Mason, and Michael and Elaine Jones. Glenn and Susan Tuskamoto were there to advise for Senior YBA. Attendance from other chapters was a bit sparse with Sacramento, Salinas, San Jose and Fresno being the only chapters represented.

The theme - "Yo, Represent!!" - was explained by speakers Rev. Bob Oshita, Rev. Kosho Yukawa, and Koichi Mizushima. The theme reminds us that we are all ambassadors of Jodo-Shinshu as well as of our families and organizations. We were encouraged to learn about the teachings and to practice them as a way of better representing our religion and our organizations.

This one day event lasted from 10am until after 11pm with very few breaks. The workshops included interview skills, theme creation and food preparation. The evening activities were open with karaoke and basketball dominating the time.
