We had time in Kona for activities and sight seeing.
Alvin Hironaga arranged for the entire group to visit the Ellison
Onizuka Museum at the Kona Airport. Our two buses of members easily
took over the entire museum. The staff did a wonderful job of accommodating
all of us.

The Kona Hongwanji Mission is an older temple,
having celebrated their centennial several years ago. The old style
gate is a testament to the temple's long history. The Onaijin is
festively decorated with lanterns. Reverend Shindo performed a brief
service for us in the Hondo before we gathered in the hall for the
performance and....you guessed it, more food.

The Kona Sangha was well-informed about our arrival
and performance. They entertained us with traditional dance, a Senior
Choir performance, food and odori. Their odori is enhanced by their
local taiko group (below right). Notice how young these taiko players
are - and they were fantastic!!
