Thanks to Roy for manning the Generations Booth at Obon. We had many people come by to see the Phase I drawings and draft campus plans. We also had our very first Generations brochure. We handed out over a hundred of them and if you’re interested, pick one up in the office.
Unfortunately, we did not hit our $2.7M fundraising goal and per the proposal that the SJBC Board approved, we will postpone the project until 2015. While this is disappointing, we are confident that we can raise the balance of the money over the next year. We will launch our General Campaign on 9/7/14 which is the first day of Dharma School and the Organization day. I fully expect all organizations to support this effort in any way they can.
This means it will be business as usual for the 2014-15 year and all reservations made at the Planning meeting will be in effect.
I also want to provide a quick update on the actual building costs. Due to the booming economy, the construction costs came in higher than expected. We are still working with the General Contractor and Architect to reduce the costs out but the new cost is in the neighborhood of $3.5-$4M including contingencies. Over the next few weeks, we will also look at a reduced scope option which equates to a lower costs and if it makes sense, we will bring it to the Board for approval. At this moment we are still moving towards our current scope as discussed in prior newsletters.
Thank you very much for your patience and support. If you have any questions or concerns, pls let me know.
