Infrastructure Update Aug 2015

Posted by:

A huge thanks to Steve Onishi for managing the Move out process and working with the Church clean up crews to make sure the Annex is ready for construction and purged for all the unused items. I was at the Temple on Tuesday and saw many of the areas already cleaned up.
I hope many of you saw the ‘HELP!!” banner at Obon.
We need your help!!!
Please DONATE so we can seismically retrofit our J-Town community gym and ...

Infrastructure update July 2015—Let the construction begin!!

Posted by:

The board has approved the go forward plan with a few accommodations. Our current goal is $4.4M and that includes the Seismic work, ADA improvements, Elevator, Women’s/Men’s bathrooms, Kitchen, fire sprinklers and associated electrical and plumbing improvements. This does not include Air conditioning unless we raise another $200K by September in addition to our monthly projected current fundraising goals or if someone wants to sponsor this project and donate directly to install Air Conditioning.
Some of you may have ...

It’s Obon time!!

Posted by:

Wow, July is already here and Obon is right around the corner. This is our #1 fundraiser for the year and proceeds go directly to the daily operations and the Generations Capital Campaign. I know I mentioned this last month but a huge thanks to Jim Mclure and all of the Obon committee chairs and members. If it wasn’t for them, our Temple could not sustain itself. Really, if we didn’t have obon then we wouldn’t be able to offer ...

Summer is right around the corner and so is Obon…..

Posted by:

June is such a fun time and month. You have High School and College Graduations, no school, vacations and the last day of Dharma school. Don’t get me wrong, I love coming to church but it’s nice to sleep in during the summer. It’s a time to recharge the batteries, spend time with the family and of course, help out at Obon. A big thanks to Jim McClure, all the chairs and committee members for making Obon happen. If ...

June Gym/Annex renovation update

Posted by:

We made good fundraising progress during the month of May by bringing in over $100K and a large part of that is due to the Yuki Matching program, however we are still approx. $900K short of our $4M goal. I have asked the Board to personally raise $25-30K with the hope that if all 25 Board members and Reverends do this, we can hit out goal. We also need your help, if you have donated and know someone who hasn’t, ...

April Annex/Gym Renovation Update

Posted by:

I wanted to follow up on our announcement to start the Annex and Gym renovation project this year. We are starting for the following reasons:
1) Given the booming economy, the Board felt we can ‘buy’ more construction with the current dollars we have today vs waiting until we have the entire amount and potentially see the costs go up another 20%.
2) We have enough money to complete the key safety and security items which is the key purpose ...

March Infrastructure update

Posted by:

I’m very pleased to announce that we will start the Annex Renovation this year!!! We have risen $3M dollars to date which puts us at 75% towards our ‘current’ goal but more on that later. We were able to achieve this milestone with the generous $500K donation from the Takeo and Miyoko Yuki Family donation. As I’ve mentioned in the past, I’m very humbled with the Generosity of our Sangha. We must continue to raise money so we can ...

It’s time for March Madness!!

Posted by:

Thanks to everyone for coming out to our First Annual Super Bowl party. We had over 100 people and raised over $4K. Thanks to the Super Bowl planning committee, raffle donors and helpers. Without you, we couldn’t have pulled this off. Many were very surprised at the quality of the video and sound. In fact, several groups want to use the AV equipment for their fundraising events. This was a win/win event for all. Our fundraising committee has already started ...

Welcome back to a new Church year!!

Posted by:

A little over a 100 years ago, the Issei came to America to create a new life for themselves and part of that life was the Church. Temples sprouted up like the cherry trees and strawberries they planted and cultivated. Like in Japan, the church was always the center of the community, a gathering place for celebrations, weddings, obons, festivals and funerals. In times of prejudice, it was one of the few places you were always welcomed. Through the good ...
