Bridges or Walls?

The recent exchange between Donald Trump and Pope Francis seems to be creating quite a stir with one stating that a true Christian should not be talking about building walls, but about building bridges. The other fired back that a religious leader should not be questioning an individual’s religious beliefs. This exchange seems to be unprecedented and seems to be newsworthy because of the supposed transcending the lines ...

Mean Man

G Sakamoto

The other day as I was driving to work I saw a man running along the sidewalk. He turned back to the oncoming traffic waving frantically. Behind me I could see a bus on its approach to the stop up ahead. The man still had half a block in front him. He would not make it. As the bus crossed the intersection it slowed down and opened its doors for the out-of-breath man.

With all the difficult things we hear ...

Nirvana = Pure Land?

Posted by:

K. Ken Fujimoto

As I have mentioned before, many people seem to confuse Nirvana with enlightenment or as being the same birth in the Pure Land.  Nirvana, literally means extinction and is properly used in reference to the death of the Sakyamuni Buddha, where his body and all the inherent passions that accompany life were extinguished.  However, the term is sometimes used to refer to the extinguishing of the worldly passions during his life as a part of his attainment of ...

That our family and friends will be happy in the days to come. These wishes and hopes are shared by many. They are not empty but filled with the deepest aspiration for things to be well.

There is a well known phrase in the ...

I’m the new temple president. I know many of you and hope to meet those I don’t know in the weeks and months to come.

I begin my term in the midst of one of the most exciting and at the same time challenging periods in the long history of the temple and its members.

After some 18 years of hoping, discussing and planning, last year we started the temple’s most ambitious building ...

Happy New Year – X

K. Ken Fujimoto

Time for yet, another New Year’s greeting. With the pending Super Bowl coming to the area, I decided to go with Roman numerals this year.

As I re-read the article I wrote last year, there has been a lot of progress. The Girl Scout troop who had undertaken the task of cataloging our altar pieces have pretty much finished their project. There ...

Well I guess this is it. It’s been a fun ride and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. For anyone who is thinking about joining the Board, please do. It’s not the Board of old, where the meetings last 4 hours and nothing gets decided. We shoot for a 2 hour meeting and have been trying to push minor decisions to the committee level so we can reserve the precious Board time for the Major decisions or items that ...

Falling

G Sakamoto

Most of us have fallen. We may have slipped and fallen or lost our balance and fallen. Sometimes we fall on purpose like off a diving board or onto a comfy bed. Usually we fall alone, sometimes we fall with friends as we might when we ride a roller coaster or skydive together. I don’t skydive. I don’t roller coaster anymore. It has been suggested that not getting on a roller coaster may have more to do with control ...
