Housekeeping

This world is one of constant change. We point to this reality frequently in our services. The main concern is in the changes of the human condition, but changes are everywhere, including our temple. Every so often there is a need to explain and discuss some changes that will occur in our services. This will especially become important with the construction beginning and the adjustments that will be required because of this.

Annex renovation update October 2015

We had a great month on the fundraising front and continue to average $75K/month. If we keep this pace up we will finish the Phase I campaign around $4.7M vs a $5M goal and therefore only have to use a small portion of the $1M line of credit. This is good news, as I understand how hard it is to keep up this pace. A big thanks to the Generations committee members (Janice Doi, Joyce Iwasaki, Kevin Kitagawa, Rev ...

President’s Message

Friends…
The Temple lost a very special person when Mas Horiuchi passed away last week. He served on the Board, was a Komon member, a Dharma School teacher, helped plan our annual Golf tournament and was always hanging around the church, helping out where he could. Mas and Bob Terasaki were fixtures in the office and were always there when you needed anything. Whether it was a hand to carry something or just someone to talk story with, he was ...

The Tannisho is a manuscript attributed to Yuien-bo who is thought to have been a student of Shinran. After Shinran’s death misunderstandings began to arise. Students could no longer ask Shinran for clarification. The Tannisho was compiled by Yuien, many years after Shinran’s death, in an attempt to address some of these misunderstandings. The title, Tannisho, has been translated as: “A Record in Lament of Divergences”.

In the first ten chapters, Yuien, recalls the words of Shinran. Probably collected from ...

Most of the time it is because I am not used to how they speak so I need one of the teachers or one of the assistants to translate what they are saying so I can respond. Other times they are talking about things ...

“Even if one strives to the utmost with body and mind through the twelve periods of the day and night, and however importunate(troublesomely urgent) one’s action and practice may be as though swiping fire away from one’s head, it must all be called poisoned good acts, or empty, transitory, and false practices. It cannot be called true, real, and sincere action. Though one may direct the merits of such poisoned good toward birth in the Pure Land, it ...

September 2015 Annex renovation Update

Posted by:

Staying with the theme of ‘Are you ready?’, the renovation project will be starting soon. The original start date was supposed to be mid-August but due to a few personnel changes at our Architecture firm and a couple of permit drawing corrections, it has pushed the start date into late September or early October. All parties are aware of the hard construction end date of early June and all schedules reflect this date. We will sign our ...
