Annex Renovation Update September 2016

Posted by:

I wanted to take this opportunity to Thank everyone for all your help and support. Specifically the Infrastructure committee made up of: Rev Sakamoto, Steve Onishi, Mary Sasaki and Janice Doi, the Temple Board for courageously approving the funding for this project and the office staff for being very patience with me and the fast paced demands of construction projects.

I’d also like to Thank Jimi and George Yamauchi, George Hanada, Bob Terasaki and Greg Aso for their help to unravel our version of the Winchester mystery house. There were so many mini renovations and projects over the last 50+ years; I didn’t know where many things went, like the water and drain lines to name a few. It was also a very entertaining and informative to hear all the stories of why things were or weren’t done and who installed them. The most interesting one for me was why we didn’t have a name or address on the Annex. As the story goes, the Board didn’t want to put the name on the bldg. in fear of vandalism (due to the racism issues still prevalent in the 1950’s) and they didn’t want to jeopardize our non-profit status of having a non-religious activities going on in the gym. We have now PROUDLY put our name on the bldg. and it serves as a centerpiece of the renovation!

We have completed 80% of the punch list items and suggested fixes. Some of the suggestions may not get done as funding is not available but will be logged for future reference.

Please mark your calendars and join us for the grand re-opening on September 11th after the adult service.

Thanks again for everyone’s kind words and support.

In Gassho,
