Annex renovation update November 2015

A huge thanks to the infrastructure committee (Rev Sakamoto, Janice Doi, Steve Onishi and Mary Sasaki) for all the help and guidance that got us to this day. It has been a long haul for us and even longer for the Sangha. I understand this day has been 15+ years in the making but its finally happening.
The construction fences went up on 10/15, abatement is happening right now and the demo starts on 10/22. We are still hoping one or a group of donors will get together and raise the $125K for the gym AC as this is the only thing that we weren’t able to include in the scope of work.
The October fundraising totals aren’t in yet but I’m hoping we will get a big bump in the donations as people want to jump on the ‘band wagon’ as we start the project. We are in the process of planning some fundraising events where people can sign some of the materials that will be used in the construction and therefore be ‘part’ of the building.
On a safety note, for the safety of our Sangha and insurance liabillities, the fence now marks the construction site and we no longer have access to the annex or gym. If there is an urgent request to access the shed, pls contact the office or me and we will work it out. We have already let the contractor know that we will need access for Nikkei Matsuri. And to our JBA and Kawakami partners, pls do not enter the gym parking lot for any reason. We have also asked the contractors to not park in the Lotus/Education bldg. parking lot as this is reserved for our members.
6th St bldg.- if you have reserved the 6th st bldg. for meetings, I would recommend entering from 6th st as the breezeway between the garden and annex is closed. We are in the process of figuring out how we can utilize 6th st for funeral or service overflow, so stay tuned.
Thanks for reading and I hope you’re just as excited as I am to get this project going.
In Gassho,
Todd Tsudama, your Board president
